The Main Course

Today we will be looking into the ideas of John Locke about the rights of individuals and their relationship to a government system.

As a class, we will be reading the following  document:

Why Do We Need A Government

As we read along we will be answering the questions in our class notebook on page 17.

Why Do We Need A Government Questions

We will make sure to pay special attention to the following definitions: 

NATURAL RIGHTS

GOVERNMENT

ABSOLUTE POWER

STATE OF NATURE

CONSENT

SOCIAL COMPACT / SOCIAL CONTRACT

Next we will fill in the following fill in the blank chart in our notebook to help make better sense of John Locks arguments:

In class, each student will take home the following assignment:

 John Locke v Hobbs

This assignment will compare and contrast the ideas of John Locke against his ideological rival Thomas Hobbes
